Entry-Level Television Reporter Jobs

Entry-level television reporters report local or national news. Entry-level television reporters collect and analyze information about newsworthy events to write news stories for publication or broadcast. They receive assignment or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story idea. They gather and verify factual information regarding story through interview, observation, and research. Entry-level television reporters organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards. They may monitor police and fire department radio communications to obtain story leads and may take photographs or shoot video to illustrate stories. Entry-level television reporters are responsible for giving live reports from site of event. They will specialize in one type of reporting, such as sports, fires, accidents, political affairs, court trials, or police activities. They may be assigned to outlying areas or foreign countries and be designated correspondent.

An entry-level television reporter requires a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, media, or any relevant field. An entry-level television reporter should read a lot, be able to write, and must have ability to conduct in-depth research. Ability to work cooperatively with others to create a sense of teamwork and engaging interviews is essential. An entry-level television reporter has to be fairly thick-skinned, while it's also important to look smart on screen.
