Entry-Level Research Jobs

Entry-level researchers design, formulate, and conduct research projects. They collect, manage and analyze information, using a variety of computer software packages to organize the data, which they present in oral or written form. They are responsible for methods, such as interviews, questionnaires, and focus groups—that are used to investigate sample populations' views on specific issues. Entry-level researchers liaise with clients to take instructions about the nature of the research to be carried out and apply a variety of research techniques to gather relevant information, including document analysis, surveys, case studies and interviews. They have responsibility of developing and testing theories and gathering information, advising external bodies on social policy, analyzing and evaluating research and interpreting data, making sure that key issues are identified. Entry-level researchers prepare and report findings and disseminate results and present tenders for new research projects. They measure and assess customer and employee satisfaction.

An entry-level researcher should have a doctorate in a relevant field (education, public policy, psychology, sociology). An entry-level researcher must have the ability to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research studies and evaluation. An entry-level researcher should be self-motivated and proactive, enthusiastic, flexible and adaptable, good team-worker with ability to work alone, quick-learner. An entry-level researcher should have excellent computer skills and communication skill.
