An entry-level publisher is a key member of the management team and is in charge of book publishing. An entry-level publisher is responsible for managing editorial teams and projects. An entry-level publisher should be well-versed with commercial aspects of publishing including production cost-estimation, financial planning and pipeline management. An entry-level publisher develops products in print and multimedia and be responsible for managing the entire workflow, copyediting, typesetting, designing, artwork, proof-reading, indexing, and ensuring quality checks at each stage. An entry-level publishers liaise regularly with authors by phone and email and checking that authors have provided all the required materials and paperwork and also resolving queries directly with the author. An entry-level publisher provides administrative support for the publishing team and also provides specific support to team members on conferences, consultant’s directory, publishers’ forum, magazine, and helpdesk, specific support in monitoring the publications schedule.

An entry-level publisher requires graduate certificate, master of publishing, or master of arts degree in publishing. An entry-level publisher should have aptitude for leading assessment of publication changes and maintaining control of information architecture and its contents and also should have editor skills in supporting the editorial team and to the benefit of the resulting publication. An entry-level publisher should have excellent language skills and excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
