Entry Level Public Relations Jobs

An entry-level public relations officer uses all forms of media and communication to build, maintain, and manage the reputation of organizations ranging from public bodies or services to businesses and voluntary organizations. An entry-level public relation officer aims to manage reputation in order to gain understanding and support, and influence opinion and behavior. An entry-level public relation officer has responsibility to defining goals, analyzing problems and opportunities, liaising with management and clients; to write and edit press releases, in-house newsletters, speeches, articles, and annual reports; prepare and supervise the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programmes. An entry-level public relation officer answers enquiries from individuals, journalists, and other organizations. An entry-level public relation officer develops and maintains good working relations with the media, including local and national newspapers, magazines, radio, and television and organizes special events, such as press conferences, exhibitions, open days, tours, competitions, and sponsorship.

An entry-level public relations officer should have a college degree in journalism, communications, or public relations. An entry-level public relations officer must pass a written and an oral test to get accreditation. An entry-level public relations officer must be enthusiastic, self-confident, and creative, and must have persuasive personalities and an understanding of how people think. Computer training and a familiarity with graphics are also desirable.
