An entry-level hospital professional coordinates and participates in the interviewing process to obtain medical, personal, social, and environmental information from patients, families and other concerned parties to ensure total patient care from the onset with illness and or injury through acute care and rehabilitation. An entry-level hospital professional establishes and maintains liaison between the patient’s family and the treating physicians and define complex medical and surgical diagnoses and therapeutic procedures to the patients and their families to allay fears and to obtain cooperation in gaining the maximum benefit from prescribed treatment. They evaluate collected data regarding the medical or psychiatric plan of treatment, available social service programs and knowledge of casework or group work. An entry-level hospital professional develops educational programs to assist patient and family adjust to problems associated with acute hospitalization. An entry-level hospital professional prepares reports and analyses settings forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions and maintains liaison with various local and regional health care agencies.

An entry-level hospital professional requires a B.Sc (Biochemistry), B.Sc (lab sciences), or at least B.Sc with 1 year experience in clinical chemistry products. An entry-level hospital professional must have an intellectual mind and a pleasing personality and should have computer operative skills.
