Entry-Level Environmental Science Jobs
An entry-level environmental science officer provides primary environmental compliance support to field and facility personnel. The scope of their activities includes but is not limited to: solid and hazardous waste handling and minimization; air and water permit compliance; land use; spill prevention, clean-up, and reporting; wildlife interactions; and training of personnel in these subjects. An entry-level environmental science officer interfaces with regulatory agency personnel, and liaison between operations and regulatory agency personnel. An entry-level environmental science officer also provides support in the development and implementation of the performance unit's environmental management system. In addition, an entry-level environmental science officer should conduct formal and informal audits, participate in investigations, and conduct inspections of field, facilities, and project work in progress.
An entry-level environmental science officer requires a bachelor's of science degree or some years of environmental experience. An entry-level environmental science officer should have demonstrated effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish a good rapport with field personnel, as well as the ability to thoroughly document compliance activity. An entry-level environmental science officer requires willingness and ability to travel in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. An entry-level environmental science officer requires ability to effectively manage available resources and prioritize work on a continual basis. An entry-level environmental science officer requires ability to actively pursue an understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
