Finding Jobs for Recent College Graduates

Jobs for recent college graduates can be found in many industries and companies. In the face of the recession today, most find it daunting to find their dream job. Yet with the proper planning, the right career choice, learned skills, and academic training one can still find that perfect job. Most of the in-demand jobs nowadays are also well-paying and one can also expect stability and career growth if he or she chooses to stay in it.

Promising Positions

One kind of work for graduates that promises great pay and stability is an IT-based job. Examples of these are in computer software development, computer hardware development, and systems application. Software engineers are one of the most in-demand people in the IT industry in particular, and among all the other industries as well. Computer hardware and systems applications have similarly good employment prospects. Annual salaries for entry-level positions in these jobs can range from $55,000 to as much as $59,000. After a few years on the job and experience handling a variety of projects, one can fetch over $100,000 a year already. Additionally, these college graduate jobs are not limited to the IT industry but are also much sought-after in the banking and financial industry, insurance companies, and other industries.

Jobs for new graduates are also high in the educational industry, especially in special education, pre-school, elementary, middle schools, and post-secondary schools. With the expansion and changing school system allowing more special education to accommodate young children and adults with learning or physical disabilities, more teachers are needed in this sector. The increasing number of non-English-speaking immigrants settling in the country has also expanded the need for a new teaching curriculum to include an English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) in schools. Vocational or technical schools are also in need of experienced teachers who can handle adult and out-of-school youth who need to go into this school program. High school enrollees are also increasing each school year so more teachers are needed each year. Depending on the subject, location, and qualification, this work for college graduates can earn as much as $31,000 to over $60,000 a year.

Accounting, economics, or any relevant business-degree graduate can get a job in banks, financial or investment firms as an accountant, auditor, loan officer, mortgage broker or banker, financial analyst, collections officer, bookkeeper, or customer service representative. The annual salaries of each one differ by position, location, size of company, and qualification. College graduate jobs in these industries also have good earning potentials. Financial analysts can earn commissions, bonuses, and incentives based on performance. Some loan officers get commissions aside from their base pay, while some banks only offer commissions but actually allow people in these positions to earn more.

Jobs for recent college graduates can also be lucrative in pharmacy, nursing, and physical therapy. These three jobs from the healthcare and healthcare service-related industry are in-demand and belong to some of the highest-paying jobs. Registered nurses and physical therapists who work in hospitals, private clinics, and rehabilitation facilities can earn as much as $60,000 a year. Pharmacists who can be found in hospitals, pharmacies, and pharmaceutical companies can earn as much as $111,000 a year based on their qualifications and performance. Work for college graduates here are also some of the most stable in the country because of the continuing expanding healthcare service program in the country to include the needs of the growing elderly population.

Work for graduates can also be found in the advertising, marketing, public relations, and mass media industries where young people with fresh marketing and communications concepts and skills are welcomed. Journalism, marketing, advertising, and business-related course graduates have the advantage over other applicants in these industries. Graphic and web designers and design planning graduates are also needed in these industries as well as account and sales executives, and marketing planners. Annual salaries vary by industry, size of company, position, and qualification for jobs for new graduates.

Jobs for recent college graduates can also be found in sales, construction, engineering, GIS, federal, sports, human resources, quality assurance, research, finance, and many more. While most entry-level jobs have modest salaries, some employers offer the highest-paying jobs for applicants who qualify. Some types of jobs, especially in the sales and marketing, bank and investment firms offer commissions, bonuses, and performance-based incentives so that earnings apart from the base pay of the employees are cumulatively higher.
